There are a few things you can check to ensure the noise is not due to some kind of external problem:ġ.) Ensure all of the parts are secured tightly (Pump housing, filter basket secured, lid secured, etc.) loose parts can rattle due to vibrationĢ.) Ensure that the filter is leveled securely - If the o-ring in the leveling dial is loose, or if the filter vibrates against the aquarium, this can cause some noiseģ.) Check to make sure that nothing is blocking the impeller - you can access the impeller by sliding off the pump housing, sliding the pump out of the tracks, and popping off the front of the pump.Seachem Tidal 110 Hang on Filter -2000lph Seachem have thought of everything for this Hang on Filter with the build quality and warranty through to the self cleaning and priming – not forgetting the Matrix Media included and the dual intake with surface skimming makes it one of the best on the market. You are correct that sometimes newer filters are louder as they need some time to build up a biological "lubricant". Thanks for the post, apastuszak! I'm sorry to hear that your Tidal Filter was louder than you expected. My question is, is a noise level between 58 and 60 dB normal for this filter? I have another one coming tod Obviously this is not a fair comparison, since I modified the Aquaclear, but it is quite a difference in noise level. On my modified Aquaclear 110 (impeller shaft replaced with a ceramic one, and a heavy dose of petroleum jelly applied to the shaft) my dB noise level from the app was between 45-50 dB and this was with the phone right next to the impeller/motor assembly with no water or glass in the way. And the pump is in the water, so I was measuring through water and glass to get that reading.

SLA Lite was telling that the filter was producing between 58 and 60 dB of noise when I placed the phone near the filter. On another tank, I have an Aquaclear 110, so I will be doing a comparison of that filter. I used an app called SLA Lite to measure the dB noise level of the filter. So, I have ordered another one from Amazon to test out, since they have a pretty generous return policy.īut I do have some some questions about the filter from the short time that I had it that I am hoping can be answered. The aquarium I was using it on was right next to my desk that I work at all day, and it was just too loud for me.īut then I read a post on these forums that recommended that I let the filter run for a few days to see how the thing settles out. Last week, I bought a Seachem Tidal 110 filter and ended up returning it because of the noise level.
